Kent Club members recently had the chance to step inside one of London’s hidden gems: the Armourers’ Hall, home of the Worshipful Company of Armourers & Brasiers. The Company, one of the City’s oldest Livery Companies, has been based on the same site since 1346, making this visit a rare opportunity to explore living history.
Discovering the Livery Tradition
The evening opened with a talk on the history of the Livery Companies and the role they continue to play today. Members also learned about the Armourers & Brasiers themselves, their long traditions, and how armour shaped medieval warfare.
Inside Armourers’ Hall
A guided tour then brought the Hall to life. From grand rooms to fascinating artefacts, each space revealed stories of the past and showed how the Hall still serves the City in modern times.
Fellowship and Refreshments
The visit concluded with tea, coffee, and biscuits — a chance to relax, reflect, and enjoy conversation with fellow members. Photography was encouraged throughout, allowing members to capture the character and detail of the Hall.
This limited 90-minute tour, gave members a rare look behind the doors of one of London’s most historic halls. It was a day of history, fellowship, and discovery that will be fondly remembered.
