On Friday 28th March, Kent Club members enjoyed an exclusive private guided tour of one of London’s best-kept historic treasures – The Charterhouse.
Organised under the stewardship of our Membership Officer, W.Bro. Norman Jones, the event provided another excellent opportunity for members to come together and experience one of the City’s most fascinating historic sites.
Hidden away in the heart of Clerkenwell, the Charterhouse offered a captivating journey through more than 650 years of London’s history. Our knowledgeable guide brought the remarkable story of the site to life, from its origins as a 14th-century Carthusian monastery, through its transformation into a grand Tudor residence and school, to its continuing role today as a living almshouse.
Members explored many of the Charterhouse’s most impressive spaces, including the magnificent Great Chamber, peaceful courtyards, the beautiful chapel and secluded gardens. Access to areas not normally open to casual visitors made the experience all the more special, providing a unique insight into the rich heritage and continued purpose of this remarkable institution.
Beyond the history and architecture, the morning was an excellent opportunity for members to enjoy one another’s company, welcoming familiar faces and new members alike. The relaxed setting encouraged conversation throughout the tour, reinforcing what the Kent Club is all about—bringing London Freemasons together through memorable social and cultural experiences.
A sincere thank you goes to our guide and the team at The Charterhouse for their warm welcome and engaging presentation, and to our Membership Officer, W.Bro., for arranging another successful and enjoyable event for the Club.
We look forward to many more opportunities to discover London’s hidden gems together.
